Alexa.com is a useful tools to identify the popularity of websites on the internet.

Sites as Yahoo, MSN, Google, and eBay are ranked top twenty in Alexa, and many others ranked among the thousands or millions.

Good Alexa ratings can be of significant value in helping web sites gain advertisers, as well as a giving them a better chance of being accepted into reciprocal exchanges of links or other types of advertising. It is also of value for comparing how popular similar web sites are.

To check your site’s Alexa ranking, visit alexa.com and click the Traffic Ranking tab near the top of the screen, as shown on the picture below:

Then enter the web site URL. The next page should show a screenshot of its home page, its popularity ranking, trends regarding traffic increases or decreases, which countries it is the most popular in, and other information.

While ratings like 889,000 or 945,000 may seem poor for people unfamiliar with Alexa, they actually are fairly good; many millions of web sites are ranked by Alexa. Some or all of this information, including the traffic ratings, may not be available for relatively new or little-known web sites. If the home page screenshot is outdated, there is a way to request that Alexa update it; see their help section for details.

Alexa determines traffic ratings for web sites by monitoring the sites visited by people using their optional toolbar software, so their rating may or may not be an accurate reflection of how popular a web site is. The toolbar requires users to have Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox for a browser, so visitors with Apple, Linux, or DOS operating systems are never counted in the ratings.

You could locate the Alexa Rank on the right bottom of the screen on your internet browser, practically it will looks as picture below:

Another thing is, IE 6.0 requires at least Windows 98. This puts web sites which cater to an audience with older computer systems or alternative operating systems at a disadvantage. The ratings are of little value or importance to sites which lack advertising or use services like Google Adsense or Yahoo! Publisher Network to generate advertising revenue.

Overall, while good Alexa ratings are of value and importance to some, they are not absolutely necessary for gaining advertisers. A web site’s Google PageRank and rankings on other traffic ranking systems (ranking.com, quantcast.com) might also be considered, and advertisers can be provided with information from the site’s own statistics as well.

If your web site has a good Alexa ranking, this can be of great value and should be pointed out; if not, point to different statistics, and keep in mind that some advertisers may not have even heard of Alexa.

Some of us probably would have been through the lousy feelings waiting for your online profit to be realized by a check. Some checks would take two weeks to arrive, some perhaps a month or more.

Today we are going to talk about another wonderful paypal based program - as an alternative to ClickBank - PayDotCom.

As an affiliate you could just promote the products listed at PayDotCom as it at ClickBank - it’s simply a new affiliate network that you can join for free and earn money through product sales. The only major difference is that you don’t have to wait for a check to arrive in the mail… they payout via PayPal.

As a merchant, PayDotCom has a lot of features that make it a more appealing option than ClickBank. For starters, your merchant account is “FREE” (unlike ClickBank which charges a $49.95 activation fee).

And again, you don’t bother to wait for a check - in fact, when one of your products sells (either directly, or through one of your affiliates) the money goes directly into your PayPal account. There’s no waiting period at all.

Another perk is that you can sell an unlimited number of products through your PayDotCom account. With ClickBank you can only sell one product per account (unless you purchase EasyClickMate software to get around this) - which means you pay $49.95 to set up each product on ClickBank. PayDotCom does have “A ONE TIME $29 ACTIVATION FEE” for multiple products, but this one time fee will allow you to set up “AN UNLIMITED” number of products.

You can also sell both physical and digital products through PayDotCom. You can even set up subscription based items, such as a membership-based site or ongoing service. ClickBank only allows you to list digital goods, such as info products.

It just makes sense to choose PayDotCom over ClickBank. There are tons of reasons why… but another one of the big differences is that PayDotCom allows you to email all of your affiliates - ClickBank does not. That has been one of the major problems with ClickBank - that you had no idea who your affiliates were, and no way to contact them. Add in the fact that you had no control over refunds, were forced to offer a specific guarantee and had no real stats to work with… and ClickBank was extremely restrictive. However, it was the best option for a long time because it was one of the only options (outside of setting up the software to manage your own affiliate program in-house).

I signed up for a free account myself, so I’ve had an opportunity to check things out behind the scenes. It’s very easy to use, and they offer a lot of features to both the affiliate and the merchant. I was very impressed with it, myself - and am surprised that I haven’t heard more word of mouth about it than I have.

I’m not so sure why you would even choose ClickBank anymore, now that PayDotCom is available.

For years now there has been talk about inaccurate reporting at ClickBank, “dry spells” where no sales were reported at all in accounts that get consistent sales otherwise, etc.

With all of that in question and all of the features lacking that any good affiliate program manager should offer… I see ClickBank needing to make major changes, or phasing out altogether.
